Participate in class session after reading Chapter 6, Networking and Communication, reading the Internet Basics tutorial on GCFGlobal and watching the video posted in the course on networks of key networking concepts, covering:
– The significance of networks in modern computing.
– Different types of networks (LAN, WAN, MAN).
– Devices: Computers, laptops, smartphones.
– Essential network terminologies and components (nodes, routers, switches, IP addresses, etc.).
– IP addressing.
– The role of routers and switches in directing network traffic.
– Wi-Fi vs. Ethernet connections.
2. Collaborative Network Diagramming
Follow instructors’ directions to divide into small groups. Share personal experiences, challenges, and insights of interacting with computer networks at home, school, work, etc. Collaborate to create a visual diagram to represent of a simple home network:
– Include computers/laptops, a router, and connections, printer and other devices.
– Label components and connections.
– Discuss IP addresses for each device within the diagram.
