For my final essay, I will answer “Discuss the levels and patterns of violence against women; what can be done to raise awareness of the problem and to combat it?” To address this topic, I will cover several themes. These include the sociological and criminological theories of violence against women, such as feminist standpoints and intersectionality. I will then highlight statistical data on the prevalence and trends of the problem, the root causes of the issue, including structural inequalities and cultural factors, and how education, policy, and advocacy operate as far as raising awareness and combating the problem is concerned. Besides, I will consider the criticisms and challenges to current approaches to addressing violence against women to ensure that the analysis is more comprehensive. Accordingly, I will discuss the historical context, the shifting of societal norms, and the development of legal frameworks in response to the issue. I will further analyze the contributions of key theorists, like Kimberle Crenshaw, to understanding the intersectionality of gender, race, and class in experiences of violence.
