Context:
INTRODUCTION:
Student must develop a project with a public or private agency/organization that has as its goal—the mitigation/solution of a social problem. The student must clearly identify a social problem and programs associated with a specific agency. See details below for structure and time requirements.
TEXT:
students must choose one academic text to use in writing final paper.
Students must identify an academic text—either book or research article that provides background analysis and context regarding the problem identified for study. For example, a) analysis of foster care services, b) analysis of prison based educational programs, c) analysis of upward bound or Avid programs in promoting high school graduation and college attendance.

Assignment details:
Student must maintain a weekly journal and submit it to Canvas on a weekly basis. The journal has two parts:
1) a descriiption of the service-learning experience that week. This may include the process of setting up and contacting an organization, the details of the weekly experience with observations of organizational practices and interactions with participants,
2) analysis of the weekly experiences. This may include analysis of strengths and weaknesses of the organizational practices, your feelings about your own participation, feedback from participants, your learning experiences that you find valuable for your own professional development.
