The text states that “because of the addictive properties of these substances, and the related physical, social and psychological consequences they precipitate, treatment will be required for these individuals to recover from their addiction and achieve abstinence” (Scheel, 2023, p. 4). Given what you have read about the huge number of Americans who use substances, (over 57.8%), what does this mean in terms of our future as a country? Does this impact your thoughts on policies regarding substances? If so, how? State at least 2 policies that you believe our legislators can take now in regards to addictive substances, both legal and illegal.
